GETTING TO KNOW THE ARTIST
BACKGROUND
Hi. My name is Louis. I have been an artist since 1970. I work in the traditional methods of the old masters.
As a young artist, I worked at the Santa Barbara Museum of Art in Santa Barbara, California. After work hours there, I would go to the fine art vaults for intense study of the Old Master’s oil paintings, drawings and original prints. These grand works of art are where my learning really began.
When I was not working at the museum, I would spend much of my time at home experimenting in the arts to try and figure out the traditional Old Master working processes. Even after I discontinued my employment at the museum, I continued the same procedure of studies over a period of eighteen years. Now, as a career artist, I am enjoying the results of my efforts.
PAINTING QUALITY
I use the best grade of fine art materials available today. I never skimp on quality products (such as paint) when I produce my work. Whether I produce an art sketch or a refined oil painting, I always strive to produce museum quality work. One of my mottoes is this: "Why should I spend the time, energy, and money to produce a work of art unless I strive to make it a masterpiece."
EXHIBITS
Over the years, I have participated in many one man and group art shows and competitions. I have also judged competitions. However, I do not appreciate competitions at all, because the losers always get hurt on some emotional level and I don’t like to see that happen. Yes, I am aware that competitions in our society help with resumes, but I just don’t like to see anyone get hurt and it does not need to happen. I would rather have the public decide what they like through appreciation and purchases at non-competitive art shows, over the internet, and other venues of exhibition.
MY PASSIONS IN LIFE
I have a deep passion to assist people in need. My desire is to help make the world a safer and more humane place for everyone. I am striving to produce compositions now that will promote public awareness, political advocates, and financial assistance to help provide for the needs of others.
Along with producing art, I also love to write songs.
